Our Charities - 2017

Portchester Beer Festival is a charity event and every year we pick charities to support alongside raising money for Portchester Community Centre itself.

This year we will be continuing to support our long term partners The Firefighters Charity. The festival was lucky enough to win the 'Contribution To Charity' Award at the 2015 Hampshire Fire and Rescue Celebrating Success awards.

The Fire Fighters Charity was formed during World War 2 to support the bereaved families of firefighters who died during the blitz and has been honouring the legacy of their bravery and sacrifice for over 73 years. The charity actively supports firefighters in need, whether injured, ill or in need of psychological support to come to terms with the life or death situations they face on a daily basis.

Our nominated charity this year has been selected by our evening entertainment, The Pompey Pluckers and will be The Mary Rose Community Special Academy.

The Academy is for 142 pupils between the ages of 2 and 19 years with severe and complex learning difficulties. In addition to their learning disabilities, many pupils have additional needs associated with physical disabilities, Autism spectrum condition and other medical needs. The money raised will go towards Ipads and other equipment for their music department. Music is an important and an extremely powerful and motivational tool. This equipment will help to aid music making using genres of music that the pupils can relate to.
