Ciders & Fizz

Once again we will be offering something to give our drinkers a break from the ale and have partnered up with Meon Valley Cider and Lilley's Ciders to offer you some excellent Ciders and Perrys.

Last year Meon Valley Cider made their Portchester Beer Festival debut and their locally brewed cider went down a storm, so much so that we asked them back for our Cider & Sausage Festival! This year they will be bringing along their regular Chalkstream as well as some new products for you to try.

Lilley's are a national company who we have been using as one of our cider suppliers for our drinks festivals for the past few years, they offer a vast array of ciders in their catalogue and we have hand picked some of the best. There will be scrumpy, perry and fruit ciders on offer and a guarantee that there will be something for everyone!

Something for the ladies now - although last year it went down well with one particular table of window fitters!

Our Prosecco Cart will be situated in the main hall again this year, offering cold sparkling Prosecco by the glass. This will be available throughout the day while stocks last!

Sneaky Beer Peek no.8

Our last sneaky peek before the big day comes from one of our regular sponsors, Upham Brewery and is aptly named Last Suspect. This is 3.8% chestnut ale which is described on the Upham Brewery website as soft in flavour and colour. Smooth and very easy drinking . Predominately Maris Otter malt with a sprinkling of amber ale malt, aromatic malt and a touch of light crystal. Hopped using solely UK home grown hops.

Sneaky Beer Peek no.7

Flack Manor is another of our new suppliers this year. The Romsey based brewery will be debuting 3 of their finest permanent ales at the festival including Hedge Hop. At a respectable 4.5%, the rich amber colour reveals a deep biscuity maltiness balanced with exotic fruits and spiciness from Challenger, Pilot and English new world Cascade hops.

We agree that anything involving biscuits, exotic fruits and spiciness is a sure winner!

Sneaky Beer Peek no.6

Another returning ale is Bowman Ale's Yumi. Pronounced Yoo-me and originating from the ancient Japanese Samurai warriors, a powerful bamboo long bow, with an off-centre grip. Their wonderful Blonde is a single-hopped bitter with a clean, crisp taste. At 3.9% its offers something lighter for our wonderful guests

Sneaky Beer Peek no.5

Fallen Acorn have joined us this year with their delicious array of brews and this one offers something a little lighter for the less hardened ale drinkers. Double Tide is a 5.0% Pilsner brewed by the company from Gosport and is named after the regions double tide phenomena. It is a light refreshing craft Pilsner with a semi sweet and hoppy taste.

Sneaky Beer Peek no.4

One for lovers of the dark side now, we present Portsmouth's very own Urban Island Brewing Company's Porter 28. This 5.0% porter has a combination of 7 malts giving gentle hints of smokiness and chocolate with a roasted finish. It is only brewed by the company between September and April so try it before its put to rest for another 5 months!

Sneaky Beer Peek no.3

Something with a continental taste, we have Greyhound Brewery's White Bird Witte Bier. They describe their 5.1% nod to the Belgians as a cloudy light straw beer in the Belgian style, with hints of spice and bitter orange. A refreshing beer for summer days.

This is the first time Greyhound have had any of their beers at the Portchester Beer Festival so we cant wait to try them all out!

Sneaky Beer Peek no.2

Making it's festival debut this year we have the award winning GFB from Hopback Brewery.

Taken from the brewery website they describe their best loved ale:

GFB, our golden best and our founder John Gilbert’s First Brew over 30 years ago. A hoppy aroma and packed full of the best East Kent Golding hops to give a light clean finish. Tasted to destruction by our brewers!

We definitely can not wait to try this one!

Sneaky Beer Peek no.1

Back by popular demand this year is Irving & Co Brewers Captain B.

This 5.3% spiced rum ale sold out at last years festival so be sure to get in there quickly this year if you want to sample one of Irving's best known brews.

It is that time of the year again when we give you lovely followers a sneaky peek at some of our suppliers for the Beer Festival. This year we have sourced locally and below are some of the breweries making their Portchester Beer Festival debut this year!

Hopback Brewery was started in 1986 from the cellar of The Wyndham Arms pub in Salisbury, by John Gilbert who was a pioneer of the new wave of microbrewers that appeared in the early 1980s. They have since acquired 2 more pubs and in 1996 won at the Brewing Industry International Awards for the session beer G.F.B. (Gilbert’s First Brew), claiming Gold Medal both in its class and the overall Championship, beating 232 other cask beers!

They remain a very small brewery focusing on good flavour and experimenting with ingredients, currently supplying casks to local pubs and beer festivals and their bottled beer to local and London based restaurants.
